What Are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are volatile compounds extracted from the different parts of a plant (fruit, flowers, stems, roots, leaves, bark and seeds). 

They are produced by steam or water distillation. 

Volatility means to easily go from liquid to gas at room temperature. Why "essential"? Because they contain the "essence" of

the plants fragrance.

Although mostly known for its aromatherapy use, these powerful, effective oils may be applied topically and in some cases

they may be ingested.
